Q & A: Rolling
Rolling airs on KRCB on Tuesday, April 1 at 9:00 pm.
It will screen in the community on April 5 in Santa Rosa with special guest Galen Buckwalter and on April 12 in Oakland. No charge for any of the screenings.
ROLLING views the world from the seat of a wheelchair, a place where getting dressed, opening a door or navigating a sidewalk often requires significant time and effort. Compelling video diaries recorded over a two-year period capture the struggles and triumphs of three wheelchair users as they battle to maintain their independence, face insensitivity within the health care system and interact with well-intentioned families and friends. Footage of Galen Buckwalter, Vicki Elman and Ernie Wallengren’s intimate, private and sometimes humorous everyday experiences offer a glimpse into the realities of being a wheelchair user in our culture.

Q & A: Darius Goes West
Darius Goes West screens April 7 in San Rafael and April 9 in Santa Rosa. No charge.
Darius Weems, 15, from Athens, Georgia, was born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). A group of Darius’s college-age friends decide to take Darius, who had never left his hometown, on the adventure of a lifetime. Their three-week, cross-country journey has one major goal: to reach Los Angeles and convince MTV’s popular show, “Pimp My Ride,” to customize Darius’s wheelchair. Along the way, they evaluate wheelchair accessibility at many of America’s major tourist attractions, raise awareness about DMD, and find joy, brotherhood, and the knowledge that life, even when imperfect, is always worth the ride.

Q & A: Kiss My Wheels
Kiss My Wheels screens April 6 in Berkeley and April 8 in Petaluma. No charge for these screenings.
You’ve never seen basketball like this. Kiss My Wheels follows the Zia Hot Shots, a nationally ranked junior wheelchair basketball team, through a season of training and tournament competition. Along the way we get glimpses of some of the players’ personal histories. The team’s coach, Pat, is also a district court judge—and a wheelchair user himself. This is a great film about living with a disability, but it’s an even better film about living with yourself.
